And.. we have a corporate blog!
So I'm starting to blog in multiple places but it seems that when it comes to maintaining a personal blog, I have some difficulty. I think it may have to do with the lack of social accountability or something to that effect. Not to mention that blogging is also scary! The thought of writing with my more casual voice where lots of people can see it makes me cringe a bit.
This past weekend Sherry Heyl and I got the What a Concept! team blog up! This will serve as the "corporate" blog for our company What a Concept! What I find most interesting about what we're doing is our blatant disregard for conventional wisdom regarding web presence. At this time our web presence consists solely of this blog, as well as our personal satellite blogs. Our domain name isn't a .com, but a .net and sounds more like a site focused on self help rather then consulting regarding social media, web 2.0, etc. Sherry discusses the decision to go with just a blog in this post.
What I'm wondering is, how important is doing things 'the right way' when trying to portray yourself to the business community specifically? Given what our message is concerning how blogging changes market conversations, it may not be all that important for us. However, bootstrapping as we are, I'm not one to complain at this point. :) We have a great team who has already done some amazing work and will continue to do so regardless of whether we follow conventional practices or not!
Besides, aren't consultants like... self-help coaches for organizations?
